History
In 2011 Blood &Thunder organised the inaugural Roller Derby World Cup – hosted by Toronto Roller Derby in December of that year. The 4 day event was live streamed by Derby News Network to 178,139 viewers as 13 countries battled it out. Ireland finished in 10th place with USA taking home the gold after beating Canada in the final.
Then in 2014 a new team was selected to compete in Dallas (USA) at the second World Cup. In 2014, reflecting the massive growth in the sport, the number of teams competing has more than doubled to 30 countries. Again Ireland finished in 10th place after even tougher opposition.
In 2018, the World Cup expanded again to 41 teams from around the globe competing on 3 tracks over 4 days in Greater Manchester, UK.
